  1. Laura, I love your images...especially the one of the hands of students of various skin colors forming a star! Regarding (de)tracking, do you think that students are affected by their placement in a track? That is, if students are placed in a "low" ability track, will they be predestined to fail, perhaps due to low expectations? Conversely, are "honors" students going to be successful because they are placed with teachers that maintain high expectations? Nieto talked about the effects of placing students previously tracked in "low" ability groups into "honors-type" classes, and the students were successful! - Elizabeth

  2. I absolutely love the pictures of the hands of the students. To me, it is showing that all students no matter what culture need to come together in order to create a successful classroom environment where everyone is valued and appreciated.

......thats a one heck of a word!...I must say I was not counterhegemonic in middle school, I wanted to fit in with everyone else. I too love the pictures, diversity acceptance does not just fall on the students but the teacher must set the classroom environment up to make it a positive welcoming one:)

  4. Elizabeth, I definitely think they can be effected by being placed in a specific track. If the students don't realize themselves they are in a specific classification, teachers certainly do and that can be carried all the way through their education. Whether or not they are intentionally given lower expecatations or not, it is possible.
