The anti-bias curriculum is an activist approach which its proponents claim challenges forms of what they deems prejudices, such as racism, sexism, ableism/disablism, ageism, homophobia, and other –isms. Anti-bias curriculum has a strong relationship to multiculturalism curriculum and its implementation; the most notable difference between these two theories and practices is the age of the intended audience.

Christina, I think the critical thing for persons in education to remember and keep at the front of their minds is that EVERYONE is biased. We can't exist in this world without developing some bias. Once educators accept that they are biased, they can develop ways to deal with the bias, and they can use their awareness to guide their social justice practice. - Elizabeth
ReplyDeleteALL students do have the ability to learn and grow in the classroom setting altough some educators may not always see that. Within the idea that all students have the ability to learn, it is important to emphasize and take advantage of all of the teachable moments that do arise in the classroom setting which can include bias through the isms.
